06 Oct 20 Most Expensive Keywords in Florida 2014
It pays to be at the top of Google, but depending on your industry, keywords can be expensive!
So what are the most expensive keywords in Google Adwords? We decided to have some fun (yes, keyword research is fun for SEO geeks) and do our own research specifically for Florida, where Telx Web is headquartered. Then we had our super creative graphic designer put together an infographic.
Some of the trends that we found were surprising (Cord Blood?) and some less so. Mortgage and Loan keywords have dropped from the top 10, and we’ll blame the economy for that. The cost for Degrees and Classes has increased, and (no surprise here) the demand for Lawyers has held steady.
How did we do it?
I’m so glad you asked! We used the list of industries from this WordStream infographic as a starting point, then added in a few of our own, like SEO and Marketing. Plugging the industries into Google’s Keyword Planner, targeting Florida, we averaged the suggested Cost-per-Click (CPC) for all the keywords to find the industry average. Then we ranked them.
Here’s what we found:

Tips for Businesses in Expensive Google Keyword Industries
The industries with the highest CPC are those with the highest lifetime customer value, so the amount of money they could potentially make off a customer justifies the high cost of each click. Been aware of the industries cost allows SEO consulting companies build advices more effective to each industry like our SEO for Legal industry strategies for example. Considering the amount of money someone spends on getting their degree, for example, $33 is a steal. A Pay-per-Click (PPC) campaign can quickly spiral out of control if you are not implementing the best marketing practices. Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Be Specific: Target specific 3-5 word keywords. The Google AdWords Keyword tool we used to gather our information is a great resource for both broad and long-tail keywords.
- Negative Keyword Tool: Specify keywords that you do not want to show up for. Example: A web design company looking for new business doesn’t want to show up for ‘web design jobs’ because this company is not hiring. So they set ‘jobs’ as a negative keyword. You don’t want to waste money on clicks that are set aside for client acquisition.
- Quality Score: High AdWords Quality Scores can lower your cost-per-click. The Keyword Niche Finder can provide smaller more segmented lists that you can target for better rankings.
